Etched Double Fantasy Swirl is a two piece dichroic fusing set built around ornate paisley swirls, tight spirals, feathered fans, and curling scrollwork. You get two etched pieces, each about 2" x 2", one on a black base and one on clear. They are etched as mirror image reverses of each other, so when you fuse them dichroic sides together the patterns register and combine into a single two toned dichroic panel.
Dichroic glass shifts color with light and viewing angle. The black piece reads bold and high contrast on its reflected color, while the clear piece passes light and shows both its transmitted and reflected colors. Fused face to face, the two layers play against each other for a depth and color movement a single layer cannot produce.

Working Notes
Firing Guidelines & Helpful Tips
Firing schedules and surface results vary by kiln, glass thickness, base glass, coating, layering, and desired finish. These are guidelines, not guarantees. Use the base glass manufacturer's guidance, and test a small piece first when appearance or compatibility is important.
- Cut on the back (not the etched) side.
- Clear capping, uncapped firing, and coating side orientation can each affect the final look, coating side up tends toward a glossier finish, and coating side down tends toward a more matte finish, so test first when the result matters.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is etched dichroic glass?
Dichroic glass is known for showing different colors depending on light and viewing angle. Ancient examples include the Roman Lycurgus Cup, whose color shift came from tiny gold and silver particles within the glass. Modern art dichroic glass uses a different thin-film coating approach: very thin metal or metal-oxide layers on the glass surface reflect some wavelengths of light while allowing others to pass through. For these products, selected areas of the coating have been etched away to leave the pattern, and the etched through areas reveal the base glass beneath. The coating is on one side only.
What do I get with Etched Double Fantasy Swirl?
Two etched pieces, each about 2" x 2", one on a black base and one on clear, etched with the Fantasy Swirl pattern in mirror image reverse.
How do I use it?
Fuse the two pieces with the dichroic (etched) sides facing each other. Because the patterns are mirrored, they register and combine into a single two toned dichroic panel.
How does the dichroic color look?
Dichroic glass reflects one color and transmits another, shifting with light and viewing angle. The black layer shows primarily its reflected color, while the clear layer passes light and shows both transmitted and reflected color. Fused together, the layers add depth and movement.
Is it made to order?
Each set is etched to order, so it may not ship under our standard next day shipping guarantee. Allow extra handling time.
Any firing tips?
Cut on the back (unetched) side. Firing results vary by kiln, glass, and setup, so these are guidelines rather than guarantees. Test a small piece first when the result matters.
