Five randomly selected etched dichroic glass squares, variety and discovery in one box.
This mystery box holds five randomly selected etched dichroic glass squares on solid colored glass. It is built for variety and discovery: a low commitment way to broaden a stash, sample motifs outside the usual rotation, and turn up combinations that fall outside regular inventory. A practical pick for artists who work small and welcome a surprise.
The dichroic coating reflects one color and transmits another. On a solid or opaque base, light does not pass through, so the reflected color dominates; on a clear base both colors appear at once and shift with viewing angle. Contents are randomly selected, the photo is one example, and specific patterns cannot be requested.
Suited to jewelry, mosaic, and small accents. An ArtGlassSupplies.com exclusive.

Working Notes
Firing Guidelines & Helpful Tips
Firing schedules and surface results vary by kiln, glass thickness, base glass, coating, layering, and desired finish. These are guidelines, not guarantees. Use the base glass manufacturer's guidance, and test a small piece first when appearance or compatibility is important.
- Cut on the unetched (back) side.
- Clear capping, uncapped firing, and coating side orientation can each affect the final look, coating side up tends toward a glossier finish, and coating side down tends toward a more matte finish, so test first when the result matters.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is etched dichroic glass?
Dichroic glass has ancient roots, including the Roman Lycurgus Cup. Modern dichroic glass was advanced through NASA era vacuum deposition work, where ultra thin metal coatings were applied to transparent surfaces for optical protection. Today, dichroic glass uses thin metal oxide layers on the glass surface to create color that shifts with light and viewing angle. For these products, selected areas of the coating have been etched away to leave the pattern, and the etched through areas reveal the base glass beneath. The coating is on one side only.
What is in the mystery box?
A pack of 5 randomly selected etched dichroic pieces on solid colored dichroic glass (any CBS Dichroic solid color). Specific patterns and colors cannot be requested, and the photo is an example only, the actual pack will differ. The pack may contain combinations not found in our regular inventory.
How does the dichroic color look on black vs clear glass?
On black glass you see primarily the reflected color, bold and high contrast, because no light passes through the opaque base. On clear glass light passes through, so you see both the transmitted and reflected colors at once, shifting with the viewing angle, suited to suncatchers and windows.
Is this made to order?
Each piece is etched to order. Because it is etched on demand, it may not ship under our standard next day shipping guarantee, allow extra handling time.
Can I get a custom pattern etched?
Yes. Custom etching is available, contact AGS to arrange your own pattern etched onto dichroic glass.
