The Etched Luminescent Magic Carpet draws an ornate, symmetrical tapestry of paisley teardrops, scrollwork, floral medallions, and lace-like arches in fine, dense linework across the surface. The intricate all-over field is line-forward and richly detailed, the remaining etched luminescent glass coating carrying a luminous rainbow shimmer.
The coating gives a luminous, pearlescent rainbow shimmer, seen in ordinary light, shifting with the angle and varying sheet to sheet. On a Black base it reads bold and high-contrast; on a Clear base it is translucent and passes light for suncatchers; Reactive Blue sets it over a colored ground.

Firing Instructions & Helpful Tips: Luminescent Etched Glass
These are guidelines, not guarantees. Each kiln and each handmade sheet behaves a little differently, so test a small piece first when the result matters.
- Cut on the non-etched (back) side. To cut on the etched (front) side instead, pre-fire etched-side-down to about 1350°F first.
- Do not cap with clear.
- For the first fuse, fire etched-side-down on fiber paper. Fired face-up the luminescent coating can burn off.
- It can be re-fired etched-side-up at a lower temperature (under 1400°F; we don't exceed 1250°F).

What is etched luminescent glass?
A luminescent coating on the glass surface that gives a luminous, pearlescent rainbow shimmer in ordinary light. It is not glow in the dark. Selected areas have been etched away to leave the pattern: the remaining coating carries the rainbow shimmer, and the etched-through areas reveal the base glass. The coating is on one side.
What base options are available for Etched Luminescent Magic Carpet?
Black Luminescent, Clear Luminescent, and Reactive Blue Luminescent, all 3mm, COE96. The base is selected at order time from the drop-down on this page.
How does the rainbow shimmer look on different bases?
On a Black base the rainbow shimmer reads bold and high-contrast; on a Clear base it is more translucent and passes light, suited to suncatchers and windows; on a Reactive Blue base it sets the shimmer over a colored ground. The shimmer shifts with the light and varies sheet to sheet. It is seen in normal light, not in the dark.

Each Etched Luminescent Magic Carpet piece is etched to order. Because it is etched on demand, it may not ship under our standard next-day shipping guarantee. Allow extra handling time.
Can I get this pattern on a different glass, or my own pattern etched?
