Oceanside Crystal Opalescent frit (style 209-96) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible crushed glass, a white opal for shading, blending, and casting.
Appearance
A crushed white crystal opal, translucent to milky-white granules that catch light with a soft pearly sheen. Loose in the jar it reads as a bright frosty white; spread over a base it becomes a soft snowy layer.
Working notes
Crystal opal frit adds a soft white to shade, blend, and lighten. Sift a fine grade to frost or soften a color, or pack coarser grains for texture and casting. Over darker glass it reads as a soft cloudy white; a full fuse melts it into a smooth opal layer.
Reactions
This color is not on the System 96 reactive list, so it sits next to other colors without forming a reaction line. See the System 96 Reactive Color Chart for the colors that do react.
Using the frit
Frit is crushed glass sorted into grades from fine to coarse; mix grades to build depth.
Fusing and compatibility
It fuses cleanly with any other 96 COE product in the System 96 family. With glass from other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so test-fire a small tile first.
