Oceanside Forest Green Opalescent (style 6227-96) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible glass in frit form, crushed opaque glass in a rich forest green.
Appearance
The frit is a rich forest green, a deep leafy green with fine white streaking running through the chips from the opalescent glass. The crushed pieces read as a solid saturated green with lighter pale-green and white edges where the streaks show. Overall it is a full, natural green like summer foliage.
Working notes
As an opal the frit stays solid and covers with an even green rather than passing light, so it is good for laying down a field of foliage or a solid ground. A full fuse melts the chips into a smooth green surface, while a lighter fuse keeps a granular texture. The white streaking in the glass adds subtle variation across the color.
Reactions
This is a copper-bearing color, rated medium on the System 96 reactive scale. Fused against a sulfur-bearing glass it can develop a reaction line or a shift in color where the two meet, an effect fusers use on purpose for shading and depth. Next to non-reactive colors it stays true. See the System 96 Reactive Color Chart for the colors it reacts with.
Using the frit
Frit is crushed glass sold in grades from fine to coarse, used for shading, blending color across a surface, filling detail, and casting into molds. Sprinkle it dry over a base, pack it into a mold, or blend grades for gradients. This is System 96 glass at 96 COE.
Fusing and compatibility
Tested compatible with other System 96 glass, so it fuses cleanly with any 96 COE product in the System 96 family. When you combine it with glass from other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so fire a small test tile first.
