Oceanside Paynes Gray Opalescent Noodles (style OGTN078F) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible glass in noodle form, flat ribbon strands in a muted blue-gray.
Appearance
The noodles are a deep muted blue-gray, the slate tone Payne's gray is named for, leaning soft blue rather than neutral. As an opalescent the strands are opaque and hold the gray as a solid line, reading as an even, subdued blue-gray.
Working notes
A full fuse melts the ribbons flat and blends their edges into the base, while a tack fuse leaves them raised for texture. The soft neutral tone works well as a shadow line or a quiet band between brighter colors.
Reactions
This is a copper-bearing color, rated low on the System 96 reactive scale. Fused against a sulfur-bearing glass it can develop a reaction line or a shift in color where the two meet, an effect fusers use on purpose for shading and depth. Next to non-reactive colors it stays true. See the System 96 Reactive Color Chart for the colors it reacts with.
Using the noodles
Noodles are thin flat ribbons for laying stripes, borders, and clean linear detail across a base. Place them where you want a band of color, then cut them to length with a running or nipping tool.
Fusing and compatibility
Tested compatible with other System 96 glass, so it fuses cleanly with any 96 COE product in the System 96 family. When you combine it with glass from other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so fire a small test tile first.
