Oceanside Paynes Gray Opalescent Frit (style 078-96) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible frit, crushed opal glass in a slate blue-gray.
Appearance
Crushed opal granules in Paynes gray, a muted slate blue-gray. The pieces read opaque with a soft matte-to-glossy surface on the broken faces, the color sitting between blue and gray.
Working notes
A cool gray for shadows, skies, and muted fills. Sprinkle thin for a light wash or deeper for solid color. A full fuse melts it in while a tack fuse keeps a grainy texture, and as an opal it stays solid over any base.
Reactions
This is a copper-bearing color, rated low on the System 96 reactive scale. Fused against a sulfur-bearing glass it can develop a reaction line or a shift in color where the two meet, an effect fusers use on purpose for shading and depth. Frit is crushed glass in graded sizes for shading, blending, casting, or filling open areas in a mold.
Fusing and compatibility
Fuses cleanly with any 96 COE product in the System 96 family. With glass from other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so fire a small test tile first.
