Oceanside Black Iridescent Opalescent (style OGT1009SFIR) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible sheet glass, a solid black with an iridescent surface coating.
Appearance
The base glass is a solid opaque black, and one face carries an iridescent coating that throws a rainbow oil-slick sheen across the surface. Depending on the angle the sheen shifts through green, blue, purple, and gold over the black ground. Straight on in low light it can look close to plain black, then flashes color as the light moves.
Working notes
The iridescent coating is on one face while the reverse is plain black. Fire with the iridized side up to keep the sheen visible after firing. As an opaque black it works as a strong base or backing layer, and the iridescent surface adds shifting color under clear or over stacked pieces. A full fuse holds the sheen if it stays face up, while a tack fuse keeps layered pieces defined.
Reactions
This color is not on the System 96 reactive list, so it sits next to other colors without forming a reaction line. See the System 96 Reactive Color Chart for the colors that do react.
Format and sizes
Sold as 3mm iridescent sheet glass. Choose your size from the options on this page.
Fusing and compatibility
Tested compatible with other System 96 glass, so it fuses cleanly with any 96 COE product in the System 96 family. When you combine it with glass from other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so fire a small test tile first.
