Oceanside Red Opalescent Frit (style 2502-96) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible frit, crushed red opal glass for shading and accents.
Appearance
A bright true red, opalescent so it reads solid and dense, even across the crushed grains. The chips vary in size and catch light on their faces.
Working notes
Opal red frit reads solid over any base rather than see-through. It melts smoother at a full fuse and keeps more grain texture at a tack fuse.
Reactions
This is a sulfur-bearing color, rated medium on the System 96 reactive scale. Fused against a copper-bearing glass it can develop a reaction line or a shift in color where the two meet, an effect fusers use on purpose for shading and depth. Next to non-reactive colors it stays true. See the System 96 Reactive Color Chart for the colors it reacts with.
Using the frit
Frit is crushed glass sold in grades from fine powder to coarse chips. Sift a light layer for soft shading, blend grades for gradients, or pack it deeper for casting and surface texture.
Fusing and compatibility
It fuses with any 96 COE glass in the System 96 family. With glass from other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so fire a test tile first.
