Oceanside Light Blue (style 132-96) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible frit, a clear bright blue in crushed glass form.
Appearance
The frit is a clear, bright blue, saturated and lively, with a touch of iridescent sparkle on some faces where light hits the broken glass. Massed in the pile it reads as a strong true blue, deeper than a pastel yet still clear and transparent. The chips glint and glow rather than sitting flat.
Working notes
As a transparent frit the blue glows brightest over a light base and deepens over dark. Use fine grades for smooth blue shading and coarser grades for texture and sparkling accents. A full fuse melts the chips into a clear blue layer, while a tack fuse keeps a granular sparkling surface.
Reactions
This is a copper-bearing color, rated medium on the System 96 reactive scale. Fused against a sulfur-bearing glass it can develop a reaction line or a shift in color where the two meet, an effect fusers use on purpose for shading and depth. Using the frit
Frit is crushed glass sold in grades from fine to coarse, and it is one of the most flexible tools for a fuser. Use fine grades for smooth shading and color blending, and coarser grades for texture, accents, and filling molds for casting. This frit is System 96 96 COE.
Fusing and compatibility
Tested compatible with other System 96 glass, so it fuses cleanly with any 96 COE product in the System 96 family. When you combine it with glass from other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so fire a small test tile first.
