The Short Oval Serving Bowl mold from Bullseye Glass, design number 8952, is a slipcast ceramic slumping form that shapes a pre-made glass sheet or fused blank into a shallow oval bowl. The form is made by Creative Ceramics in Europe from a specially formulated clay body, then imported and sold by Bullseye Glass. The forming surface is exceptionally smooth, accepts kiln wash uniformly, and holds up well across repeated firings when used and stored properly.
The outer mold dimensions are 14.8 inches by 6.3 inches by 1.7 inches tall (38 by 16 by 4 cm). These are the outer kiln-fit dimensions, not the finished glass size. Because these molds are handmade, individual pieces vary slightly, so measure your mold before cutting the glass blank. Like all ceramic slumping forms, this mold works with any COE glass; match your firing schedule to whichever glass you are using.
What does this mold make? It shapes a glass sheet or fused blank into a short oval serving bowl form. The bowl is suited to use as a small serving dish, catch-all tray, or decorative accent piece.
How does slumping work with this form? Cut a glass blank to fit the mold opening, coat the form surface with kiln wash, and place the glass over the mold. As the kiln heats, the glass softens and gravity draws it down to conform to the oval bowl shape. Let the kiln cool fully, with the door closed, before removing the finished piece.
What COE glass can I use? Any COE. Ceramic slumping molds are COE agnostic, so the same form works with COE96, COE90, or other fusible glass. Match your firing schedule and anneal temperature to the specific glass you are using.
How do I prep this mold? Coat the forming surface with kiln wash or a boron nitride primer and allow it to dry completely before placing glass. The mold surface accepts kiln wash uniformly. Re-coat between firings as needed.

Working Notes
These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small piece first when the result matters and follow a slumping schedule suited to your glass and kiln.
Coat the forming surface with kiln wash or a boron nitride mold primer such as ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer , and let it dry completely before placing glass so the finished piece releases cleanly.
These molds are handmade and vary slightly in size. Measure your mold before cutting the glass blank.
Place a pre-made glass sheet or fused blank over the mold. As the kiln heats, the glass softens and settles by gravity into the oval bowl shape. Visually confirm the slump during firing.
This mold is COE agnostic. Adjust the anneal soak temperature to match your glass: about 900 F for COE90 or about 950 F for COE96.
Let the kiln cool fully with the door closed before removing the bowl. Re-coat the mold with kiln wash as needed between firings.
Bullseye Suggested Slumping Schedule
This is a suggested starting schedule based on slumping 6mm glass in a Paragon GL24 kiln, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently and glass styles vary in viscosity. Visually confirm the slump during firing and adjust the schedule for your glass, kiln, and piece thickness. Follow Bullseye's published slumping guidelines for your specific glass.
Segment Rate (F/hr) Temp (F) Hold 1 (slump ramp) 300 1215 0:20 2 (anneal soak) AFAP 900 1:00 3 (anneal cool) 100 700 none 4 (cool down) AFAP 70 none
AFAP means as fast as possible. Segment 4 is a natural cool with the kiln door closed to room temperature. The anneal soak in segment 2 is set at 900 F; adjust to about 950 F if you are using COE96 glass.
