The Mini Soft Edge Plate mold from Bullseye Glass, design number 8963, is a slumping form that shapes a flat glass blank into a small plate with gently rounded edges. A precut sheet or fused blank is placed over the form, then fired so the glass softens and settles into the contour by gravity. The result is a shallow plate with soft, curved edges and a clean, formed surface.
The outer dimensions are 6.1 inches by 6.1 inches by 0.8 inches tall (16 x 16 x 2 cm). These are the outer mold dimensions, useful for checking kiln fit. Because each mold is handmade from a specially formulated clay body by Creative Ceramics in Europe and imported by Bullseye Glass, individual pieces vary slightly in size, so measure your specific mold before cutting glass. The forming surface is exceptionally smooth and accepts kiln wash uniformly, making prep consistent across many firings.
What does this mold make? It slumps a flat glass blank into a small plate with softly rounded edges. The gentle curve at the rim gives the piece a finished, formed profile suited for decorative or functional use.
What size glass do I cut for this mold? The outer mold measures 6.1 x 6.1 inches, but each mold is handmade and may vary slightly from that measurement. Measure your specific mold before cutting your blank and allow for how the edges will drape over the rim of the form during firing.
What COE glass works with this mold? Any COE. Ceramic slumping forms are COE agnostic, so the same mold works with COE90, COE96, or other fusible glass. Match your firing schedule and anneal soak temperature to the glass you are slumping.
How do I prep this mold before firing? Coat the forming surface with a kiln wash such as Hotline Primo Primer and let it dry completely before placing your glass. The smooth slipcast surface accepts kiln wash evenly and consistently. Re-coat as needed between firings.

Working Notes
These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small piece first when the result matters and follow a slumping schedule suited to your glass and kiln.
Coat the forming surface with kiln wash and let it dry fully before placing your glass. You may also prime with a boron nitride spray such as ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer if preferred. Re-coat between firings as needed.
Place your precut sheet or fused blank over the form. The glass softens and drapes over the contour during firing, forming the plate shape by gravity.
This mold is COE agnostic. Use a slumping schedule matched to your glass, and adjust the anneal soak temperature for your COE: about 900 F for COE90 or 950 F for COE96.
Visually confirm the slump during firing and remove the piece only after the kiln has cooled fully. Re-coat the forming surface with kiln wash as needed before the next firing.
Bullseye Suggested Slumping Schedule
This is a suggested starting schedule based on slumping 6mm pieces in a Paragon GL24. It is not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Visually confirm the slump during firing and adjust the schedule for your glass and kiln.
Segment Description Rate Temp (F) Hold 1 Slump 300 F/hr 1250 2:00 2 Anneal soak AFAP 900 1:00 3 Anneal cool 100 F/hr 700 none 4 Final cool AFAP 70 none
Segment 2 is the anneal soak at 900 F, based on COE90 glass. For COE96, adjust this temperature to 950 F. Segment 4: let the kiln cool at its natural rate with the door closed down to room temperature.
