Gold and Black Bee Decals Sheet

This sheet carries twenty-five individual bee illustrations scattered across the field in varied orientations. The bees are rendered in a naturalistic style, each showing warm gold bodies with bold black banding, distinct body segments, delicate legs, and wings depicted in a lighter, near-translucent tone. These are water-slide transfers applied to the surface of pre-fired glass. Soak a decal briefly in cool water until it releases from its backing paper, slide it into position on clean, pre-fired glass, smooth outward from the center to remove trapped water and air, and allow the piece to dry fully before firing. Because they bond to the glass surface rather than fusing as a compatible glass layer, they work on any COE glass. The gold coloring gives these a metallic look, so fire toward the lower end of the stated firing range to preserve density.

How do I apply these decals to my glass?
Soak each decal in cool water for roughly 20 to 30 seconds until it slides freely from its backing paper. Position it on clean, pre-fired glass and use a soft squeegee or fingertip to smooth from the center outward, pushing out water and air bubbles. Allow the piece to dry completely, at least several hours, before loading the kiln.

What type of glass can I use with these decals?
Any pre-fired glass works. Because these decals are applied to the surface rather than fused as a compatible glass layer, COE is not a concern. The base glass simply needs to be pre-fired and free of oils, dust, or kiln wash residue before application.

How many bees come on the sheet?
The sheet contains twenty-five bee decals in varied orientations, letting you cut and place individual bees facing different directions for a natural, scattered look.

Do the gold bees require a different firing temperature than standard decals?

Working Notes

Apply decals only to pre-fired glass that has cooled completely and been cleaned of any grease, dust, or kiln wash overspray. Work on a level surface and allow the applied decal to dry fully before firing. These gold bees have a metallic look, so fire toward the lower end of the firing range to preserve density. Cut individual decals apart before soaking if you want to place them separately rather than transferring several at once.

Suggested Firing Schedule (a suggested starting point, not a guarantee of results): On fused glass this print fires to a final range of 1240 to 1370 degrees, held about 10 minutes and kept toward the lower end to preserve density. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees. Ramp 50 degrees per hour to 185 degrees, hold 20 minutes. Ramp 150 degrees per hour to 300 degrees, hold 15 minutes. Ramp 250 degrees per hour to 500 degrees, hold 15 minutes. Ramp 600 degrees per hour to 1000 degrees, hold 10 minutes. Then to 1240 to 1370 degrees, hold about 10 minutes. Anneal for the thickness of your glass. Every kiln fires differently, so test a small sample piece before committing a finished work.
