Horse Textured Fusing Tile

The Horse Textured Fusing Tile (GX23) from Creative Paradise is a 7 by 7 inch ceramic tile used to press a horse relief pattern into glass during kiln fusing. Place the tile in the kiln with the textured face up, lay a glass sheet or fused blank directly on the surface, and fire. As the glass softens it sinks into the relief and takes on the horse design across its underside. Frit can also be fused on the tile face to create a patterned result from the texture up.

The tile footprint is 7 inches by 7 inches with a diagonal of 10 inches, accommodating square or near-square glass blanks up to that size. Like all Creative Paradise ceramic tiles it is COE agnostic and reusable across many firings when prepped and cared for properly. Creative Paradise provides two separate firing schedules: one for simultaneously texturing and fusing unfused glass layers, and one for texturing a piece that has already been fused.

What does the Horse Textured Fusing Tile make?
It imprints a horse relief pattern into the surface of glass during kiln fusing. The textured face transfers the design to the underside of a sheet or blank laid on top of the tile.

How do I use a texture tile in the kiln?
Prime the tile surface with a glass separator or kiln wash and let it dry completely. Place the tile face up in the kiln as you would a shelf tile, lay your glass on top, and fire on a schedule suited to your goal, either simultaneously texturing and fusing, or texturing a pre-fused piece.

Can I fuse frit directly on the tile?
Yes. Frit can be fused on the textured surface to create a patterned result that picks up the horse design.

What COE glass can I use?
Any COE. The ceramic tile is COE agnostic, so it works with COE96, COE90, or other fusible glass. Match your firing schedule and anneal temperature to the glass you are using.

Working Notes

These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small run first when the result matters and follow a schedule suited to your glass and kiln.

• Prime the tile surface with a boron nitride mold primer such as ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer, or a kiln wash such as Hotline Primo Primer, and follow the separator manufacturer's instructions for applying and curing before adding glass.
• Place the tile face up in the kiln as you would a kiln shelf tile. Lay glass directly on the textured surface, or apply frit to the tile face for a frit-pattern result.
• Use the simultaneous texturing and fusing schedule when firing unfused glass layers together on the tile. Use the texturing pre-fused schedule when adding texture to a piece that has already been fused.
• The tile is COE agnostic. Adjust the anneal soak temperature in segment 4 to match your glass: 950 F for COE96, 900 F for COE90.
• Let the kiln cool fully before removing the glass from the tile. Re-prime the tile surface as needed between firings.

This is a suggested COE96 starting schedule, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Test a small run and adjust the schedule for your glass and kiln.
