Hot Patterns Earthenware Textured Fusing Tile

The Hot Patterns Earthenware Textured Fusing Tile from Creative Paradise is a 9 inch by 9 inch ceramic tile used in the kiln like a shelf tile, with glass placed on top. As the kiln reaches fusing temperature, the glass softens and conforms to the GX05 Hot Patterns texture below, picking up the surface relief in the finished piece. Frit may also be fused directly on the tile to produce a patterned piece.

The tile measures 9 inches by 9 inches, with a diagonal of 12.75 inches. Like all ceramic kiln tiles, it is COE agnostic and reusable across many firings when prepped and cared for properly.

What does the Hot Patterns Textured Fusing Tile do?
It sits in the kiln as a textured base. Place sheet glass or a pre-fused blank on top, and as the glass heats and softens, it picks up the Hot Patterns surface texture from the tile below. Frit fused directly on the tile can also produce a patterned piece.

What COE glass works with this tile?
Any COE. Ceramic kiln tiles are COE agnostic, so the same tile works with COE96, COE90, or other fusible glass. Match your firing schedule to the glass you are using.

Can I fuse frit directly on the tile?
Yes. Creative Paradise notes that frit fused on the texture tile can produce a dramatic patterned result, in addition to using it as a textured base for sheet glass.

How do I prep the tile before use?
Coat the textured surface with a kiln wash or boron nitride spray, following the separator manufacturer's instructions for applying and curing. Let it dry completely before placing glass on top.

Working Notes

These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small run first when the result matters and follow a schedule suited to your glass and kiln.

• Prime the textured surface with a boron nitride mold primer such as ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer, or a kiln wash such as Hotline Primo Primer, following the manufacturer's instructions for applying and curing. Let it dry completely before placing glass on top.
• Place sheet glass or a pre-fused blank directly on the prepared tile. As the kiln fires, the glass softens and picks up the Hot Patterns texture from the tile surface below.
• Frit may also be fused directly on the tile to create a patterned surface.
• The tile is COE agnostic. Use a schedule matched to your glass, adjusting the final anneal soak for your COE.
• Let the kiln cool fully before removing the glass piece. Re coat the tile with primer as needed between firings.

Creative Paradise Suggested Firing Schedule

This is a suggested COE96 starting schedule, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Test a small run and adjust the schedule for your glass and kiln.

Full Fuse (COE96, two full layers):

*Segment 4 is the anneal soak at 950 F for COE96. If using COE90, adjust this temperature to 900 F.
