Large Bikes Decal Sheet

This sheet carries five bicycle illustrations printed in detailed black line-work. These are water-slide fusible glass decals that fire permanently onto the surface of pre-fired glass. To apply, soak the decal briefly in water until it slides freely from its paper backing, position it on clean pre-fired glass, smooth out all water and air bubbles working from the center outward with a soft brush or squeegee, let it dry completely, then fire according to the schedule in Working Notes below.

What COE glass do these decals require?
None in particular. Fusible decals are fired onto the surface of pre-fired glass rather than fused as a compatible glass layer, so they work across all COE types. Your compatibility decisions are made at the original fusing stage, before the decal is applied.

How do I keep the decal from lifting or trapping bubbles during application?
Start with glass that is completely free of oils, fingerprints, and kiln wash residue. After soaking the decal for 20 to 30 seconds, slide it into position and then work slowly from the center outward with a soft rubber squeegee to push water and air toward the edges. Allow the piece to dry at room temperature before loading the kiln.

How many bicycle decals are on this sheet?
Five bicycle designs are printed on one 5.25 by 4 inch sheet, each at a different angle. They suit small tiles, pendants, accent panels, and jewelry-scale fused glass work.

Will the black line-work show clearly on colored glass?
The bicycle designs read most clearly against light or mid-tone glass backgrounds. On very dark glass the contrast diminishes, so testing on a sample piece before committing finished work is always the right approach.

Working Notes

Apply these decals only to clean, pre-fired glass. After smoothing the decal into position, allow the piece to air-dry fully before kiln loading. The suggested firing range for this sheet is 1240 to 1370 degrees F, kept toward the lower end to hold the fine line detail.

Suggested Firing Schedule (a suggested starting point only, not a guarantee of results; every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass): Firing range 1240 to 1370 degrees F, kept toward the lower end to keep the color dense. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees. 50 degrees per hour to 185 degrees, hold 20 minutes. 150 degrees per hour to 300 degrees, hold 15 minutes. 250 degrees per hour to 500 degrees, hold 15 minutes. 600 degrees per hour to 1000 degrees, hold 10 minutes. Then to 1240 to 1370 degrees, hold about 10 minutes. Anneal for the thickness of your glass.
