Oceanside Dark Blue (style 2306-96) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible frit, a deep cobalt blue opalescent in crushed glass.
Appearance
A rich, saturated cobalt blue with royal depth. The crushed grains catch light on their broken faces for a sparkling field of solid blue, opaque rather than see-through.
Working notes
As a solid opal blue the frit holds its color over any base, bold whether sprinkled thin or packed heavy, and keeps its deep blue through firing.
Reactions
This is a copper-bearing color, rated high on the System 96 reactive scale. Fused against a sulfur-bearing glass it can develop a reaction line or a shift in color where the two meet, an effect fusers use on purpose for shading and depth. Next to non-reactive colors it stays true. See the System 96 Reactive Color Chart for the colors it reacts with.
Using the frit
Frit is crushed glass sorted into grades from fine powder to coarse grains. Use finer grades for shading, blending, and smooth gradients, and coarser grades for texture, speckling, or packing into open casting molds.
Fusing and compatibility
Fuses cleanly with any 96 COE glass in the System 96 family. With other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee a fit, so fire a test tile first.
