Oceanside Medium Amber (style 1108-96) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible frit, a warm transparent amber in crushed glass form.
Appearance
The frit glows a warm honey amber, transparent so each chip catches and passes light like tiny pieces of resin. The pile ranges from golden yellow highlights to deeper orange-brown where the chips stack, and the broken faces sparkle. It reads as a lively, glowing warm amber.
Working notes
As a transparent frit the amber glows brightest over a light base and deepens over dark. A full fuse melts the chips into a clear amber layer, while a tack fuse keeps a sparkling granular surface.
Reactions
This is a sulfur-bearing color, rated medium on the System 96 reactive scale. Fused against a copper-bearing glass it can develop a reaction line or a shift in color where the two meet, an effect fusers use on purpose for shading and depth. Next to non-reactive colors it stays true. See the System 96 Reactive Color Chart for the colors it reacts with.
Using the frit
Frit is crushed glass sold in grades from fine to coarse, and one of the most flexible tools for a fuser. Use fine grades for smooth shading and color blending, and coarser grades for texture, accents, and filling molds for casting.
Fusing and compatibility
Tested compatible with other System 96 glass, so it fuses cleanly with any 96 COE product in the System 96 family. When you combine it with glass from other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so fire a small test tile first.
