Oceanside Orange Transparent (style 171-96) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible frit, a bright orange supplied as crushed glass for shading and casting.
Appearance
The photo shows crushed glass granules in a bright transparent orange, glossy and catching the light through each chip. Because the glass is transparent, the pieces glow with warm orange where light passes through. The grade is an even scatter of small angular chips.
Working notes
Frit behaves as small pieces of the same glass, so this transparent orange lets light through and glows warmer over a bright base. A thin scatter reads as light orange speckle while a heavier layer builds deeper color. A full fuse melts the grains smooth, and a tack fuse leaves texture.
Reactions
This is a sulfur-bearing color, rated medium on the System 96 reactive scale. Fused against a copper-bearing glass it can develop a reaction line or a shift in color where the two meet, an effect fusers use on purpose for shading and depth. Using the frit
Frit is crushed glass sold in grades from fine powder to coarse chunks. Use finer grades for smooth shading and blending color across a piece, and coarser grades for texture, detail or filling molds in casting. Sift it over a base layer, pack it into open areas, or mix grades for depth. This is System 96 96 COE glass and melts on the same schedule as the rest of the System 96 family.
Fusing and compatibility
Tested compatible with other System 96 glass, so it fuses cleanly with any 96 COE product in the System 96 family. When you combine it with glass from other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so fire a small test tile first.
