Oceanside Pale Amber Frit (style 1102-96) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible frit, crushed pale amber glass in a warm transparent gold.
Appearance
The photo shows crushed glass granules in a warm honey amber, transparent so light passes through each chip and lights up the pile with a golden glow. The pieces are irregular and glassy, reading as a bright pale gold.
Working notes
As a transparent amber, frit melts to a warm see-through gold that deepens where it is piled thicker. It behaves like the sheet color in miniature, so a heavier layer reads darker and a thin scatter reads pale. It is a sulfur-bearing color, so it can react against copper-bearing glass, as noted below.
Reactions
This is a sulfur-bearing color, rated low on the System 96 reactive scale. Fused against a copper-bearing glass it can develop a reaction line or a shift in color where the two meet, an effect fusers use on purpose for shading and depth. Using the frit
Frit is crushed glass sold in grades from powder to coarse, used for shading, blending, and casting. Sprinkle it over a base for gradients and soft color washes, pack it into molds for cast pieces, or mix it with other colors to blend new tones. This is System 96 glass, 96 COE.
Fusing and compatibility
Tested compatible with other System 96 glass, so it fuses cleanly with any 96 COE product in the System 96 family. When you combine it with glass from other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so fire a small test tile first.
