Oceanside Yellow (style 161-96) is System 96 tested-compatible 96 COE fusible frit, crushed transparent glass in a bright clear yellow.
Appearance
A vivid transparent yellow. The granules are glassy and light-catching, glowing golden where light passes through them, and read as clear rather than opaque.
Working notes
As a transparent, the frit deepens in color where it piles up. Use it over light bases for a golden glow, or thinner for a wash of clear yellow. A full fuse melts the granules smooth into the surface.
Reactions
This is a sulfur-bearing color, rated high on the System 96 reactive scale. Fused against a copper-bearing glass it can develop a reaction line or a shift in color where the two meet, an effect fusers use on purpose for shading and depth. Next to non-reactive colors it stays true. See the System 96 Reactive Color Chart for the colors it reacts with.
Using the frit
Frit is crushed glass, sold in grades from fine to coarse. Sift or sprinkle it onto a base to build color and texture, or pack it into molds for casting. Finer grades melt smoother, coarser grades hold more grain.
Fusing and compatibility
Fuses cleanly with any other System 96 glass at 96 COE. With glass from other makers, matching COE alone does not guarantee compatibility, so fire a small test tile first.
