Unicorns Decal Sheet

This decal sheet carries an assortment of heraldic-style unicorn designs in bold black line art on a clear background. The set includes both unicorns and winged unicorns drawn in the tradition of classic heraldic engravings, with strong outlines, fine crosshatching, and figures caught in dynamic poses: rearing on hind legs, galloping at full stride, and standing in profile. Larger, more elaborate figures sit toward the top of the sheet, with a variety of smaller poses arranged below.

These are water-slide transfers made to be fired onto the surface of pre-fired glass. Because the decal bonds to the surface rather than acting as a structural glass layer, it is compatible with any COE glass. Soak a decal in room-temperature water until it releases from the backing, slide it into position on your pre-fired piece, smooth out trapped water and air with a soft tool, and let the piece dry fully before loading the kiln. Once fired, the image becomes a permanent part of the glass surface on tiles, pendants, ornaments, and vessels.

Can I apply these decals to glass I have already fused?
Yes. These are surface decals for pre-fired glass. Complete your base fuse first, let the piece cool, then apply the decal and fire a second time.

Are these decals compatible with my glass?
Yes. Because the decal bonds to the glass surface rather than functioning as a compatible layer, no COE matching is required. They work with any COE glass.

Can I cut the designs apart and use them separately?
Yes. Trim the individual unicorns from the sheet with scissors before soaking so you can place them on separate pieces or group several together.

Do these decals have a metallic finish?
No. The unicorn designs are printed in solid black line art, so they fire in the roughly 1240 to 1370 degree range, kept toward the lower end. See the Working Notes for the full schedule.

Working Notes

Apply decals to clean, pre-fired glass. Soak a decal in room-temperature water until it releases from the backing, slide it carefully into position, and smooth out trapped water and air with a soft squeegee or fingertip. Allow the piece to dry completely before placing it in the kiln, as moisture left under the decal can cause it to bubble or shift during firing.

Suggested Firing Schedule (a suggested starting point only, not a guarantee of results): Final firing temperature is roughly 1240 to 1370 degrees, held about 10 minutes and kept toward the lower end to preserve density. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees.
50 DPH to 185 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 20 min.
150 DPH to 300 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 15 min.
250 DPH to 500 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 15 min.
600 DPH to 1000 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 10 min.
Then advance to 1240 to 1370 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 10 min.
Anneal for the thickness of your glass. Every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first.
