Basketball Murrini/ Millefiore COE96

Each slice miniaturizes a basketball: a warm orange field crossed by curved black seam lines and framed by a dark outer ring. The seams replicate the panel lines of a real basketball, compact and consistent from slice to slice.

Murrini, also called millefiori, are small cross-section slices of patterned glass cane. Place individual slices face-up on the surface of a fused glass piece and fire them so they bond to the base glass as accents on pendants, ornaments, plates, suncatchers, and other pieces.

What glass do I use with these murrini?
These are COE96 murrini. Use them only with glass of the same COE. Combining glass with different coefficients of expansion causes thermal stress during cooling and can crack the finished piece.

How are these sold?
These are sold by the jar as an assortment of slices. Slice sizes and counts vary from jar to jar.

How do I use these in a fused glass project?
Arrange individual slices on the surface of your base glass before firing. They serve as decorative accents placed on top, not a base layer. See the Working Notes below for full fuse versus tack fuse.

Working Notes

How far you take the firing sets the final look. A full fuse brings the slices flat and flush into the base glass for a smooth surface. A tack fuse stops short of full melting, leaving the slices slightly raised and adding surface texture. Fire a small test piece first, since results vary with kiln, glass thickness, and your specific COE96 glass.
