This sheet carries twelve sugar skull designs arranged in a four-column, three-row grid. Each calavera has a white ground with bold black outlines and its own decoration: floral rosettes or hearts in the eye sockets, mandala patterns across the forehead, and swirling accents on the cheeks. The colors shift from skull to skull through pinks, purples, teals, greens, oranges, and yellows, with small flower clusters at several crowns, so every skull is distinct while sharing the classic Day of the Dead silhouette.
These are water-slide fusible glass decals. Soak a decal until it slides free of the backing, position it on clean pre-fired glass, smooth out water and air from the center outward, let it dry completely, then fire. Because the image bonds to the surface rather than fusing as a separate layer, these work with any COE glass.
What theme do these show? Each of the twelve designs is a sugar skull in the Dia de los Muertos tradition. The skulls share the same general calavera structure but differ in fill patterns, accent colors, and floral details, so no two are identical.
Can I cut individual skulls apart for separate pieces? Yes. Trim around individual skulls with sharp scissors and place each on a different glass piece. Work carefully to avoid tearing the thin film and handle trimmed decals by their edges.
What glass preparation is needed? The glass must be pre-fired and thoroughly clean. Fingerprints, residue, or kiln wash can cause lifting or bubbles. Wipe the glass with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry fully before applying.
How does firing temperature affect the surface? Firing toward the lower end of the 1275 to 1380 degree range helps preserve the brightest color, since these full-color prints lose saturation with more heat-work. Firing higher in the range settles the image more fully into the glass but can mute the colors. Every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first.
Specifications
SKU: 170529 Sheet size: 4 x 5.25 inches Design: 12 multicolor sugar skulls on white, each unique Format: single printed water-slide decal sheet Compatible with any COE glass Working Notes
Apply each decal to clean, thoroughly dry, pre-fired glass; any contamination can interfere with adhesion. These are full-color decals, so firing toward the lower end of the range helps preserve the bright color. Individual skulls can be trimmed apart and used on separate pieces. Every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass.
Suggested Firing Schedule (a starting point only, not a guarantee of results; every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass): Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees. Ramp 50 degrees per hour to 185 degrees, hold 20 minutes. Ramp 150 degrees per hour to 300 degrees, hold 15 minutes. Ramp 250 degrees per hour to 500 degrees, hold 15 minutes. Ramp 600 degrees per hour to 1000 degrees, hold 10 minutes. Then ramp to a final 1275 to 1380 degrees, held about 10 minutes. These full-color prints read best on white or light glass and lose strength on medium to dark glass. Anneal for the thickness of your glass.
