This sheet carries more than two dozen solid black horse silhouettes. The motifs span a wide range of equine poses: horses at a relaxed walk, stepping into a trot, stretching into a full gallop, rearing on their hind legs, and bucking mid-air. Several silhouettes pair horse and rider, including a jockey crouched low over a racing horse, a cowboy aboard a bucking bronco, and a composed dressage seat. Every image is a flat, solid black form with crisp, clean outlines and no interior fill.
These are water-slide decals, applied to the surface of pre-fired glass and then fired in place. Because they bond to a finished glass surface rather than fusing between glass layers, no COE matching is needed and they work with glass of any COE. The varied poses suit pendants, decorative tiles, cabinet panels, and mixed-media accent pieces.
How do I apply a water-slide decal from this sheet? Cut the decal away from the sheet and soak it in clean, room-temperature water for 30 to 60 seconds until it slides freely from its backing paper. Slide it into position on clean, dry, pre-fired glass, then smooth water and air outward from the center with a soft squeegee or fingertip. Let the piece dry completely before firing.
Do these decals work with the COE glass I already have? Yes. Because the decal fires onto the surface of pre-fired glass rather than fusing as a compatible glass layer, no COE matching is needed. Clean, fully pre-fired glass of any COE accepts these decals.
How many decals are on the sheet? The sheet holds more than two dozen horse silhouettes in a range of sizes, giving you variety for different placement needs on a single sheet.
Can I use just a few decals and save the rest? Yes. Cut only the motifs you need and store the remaining sheet in a cool, dry location away from direct light and moisture. Decals left on the sheet stay usable as long as they are kept dry and handled carefully to avoid tearing.
Specifications
SKU: 170527 Sold as a single printed decal sheet Decal count: more than two dozen horse silhouettes Firing range: 1240 to 1370 degrees F Works with any COE glass Sheet size: 5.25 x 4 inches Working Notes
Apply decals only to clean, pre-fired glass. Oils from fingerprints or polishing residue can prevent proper adhesion, so handle the glass by the edges and wipe the surface with a clean, lint-free cloth first. Smooth out all water and air from the center outward, and let the piece dry completely before firing. Tweezers help when positioning the smaller motifs.
Suggested Firing Schedule (a suggested starting point only, not a guarantee of results; every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass): Firing range 1240 to 1370 degrees F, kept toward the lower end to keep the color dense. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees. 50 degrees per hour to 185 degrees, hold 20 minutes. 150 degrees per hour to 300 degrees, hold 15 minutes. 250 degrees per hour to 500 degrees, hold 15 minutes. 600 degrees per hour to 1000 degrees, hold 10 minutes. Then to 1240 to 1370 degrees, hold about 10 minutes. Anneal for the thickness of your glass.
