The Icicles Casting Mold from Colour de Verre casts glass icicles in a single firing, with finished pieces ranging from 4.25 to 5 inches (10.5 to 12.5 cm) in length. The mold measures 6.5 inches by 6.5 inches (17 x 17 cm). Each icicle shape includes a main body cavity and a small loop at the top: fill the body with coarse frit and the loop with medium frit, then fire. Once cast, the icicles can be hung from a tree branch or window with ribbon. They also work well grouped in sets of three or four as a compact seasonal gift. If you want a flat accent piece, leave the loop unfilled before firing.
Like all ceramic casting molds, the Icicles mold is COE agnostic. Use frit matched to your glass type and fire with a schedule suited to your kiln and COE. Colour de Verre lists 17 to 24 grams of frit per cavity, reflecting the range of icicle sizes the mold produces. The mold is reusable across many firings when primed and cared for properly.
What does the Icicles mold make? It casts glass icicles ranging from 4.25 to 5 inches in length, each with a body and a small top loop for hanging. The loop can be left unfilled if you prefer a flat decorative accent rather than a hanging ornament.
How do I fill the cavities? Fill the body cavity with coarse frit and the top loop with medium frit. Colour de Verre lists 17 to 24 grams per cavity. Weigh your frit and run a test firing when the result matters.
What COE glass works in this mold? Any COE. Ceramic casting molds are COE agnostic, so the same mold works with COE96, COE90, or other fusible glass. Match your firing schedule to the glass you are using.
Can I skip filling the loop? Yes. Leave the loop cavity empty before firing and the piece becomes a flat decorative accent rather than a hanging ornament. When the loop is cast, thread ribbon through it to hang the piece.

Working Notes
These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small run first when the result matters and follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold.
Prime all cavities before every use. Colour de Verre recommends ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer or Hotline Primo Primer . Let the primer dry completely before adding frit.
Fill the body cavity with coarse frit and the loop with medium frit. Use 17 to 24 grams per cavity as a starting point and adjust based on your test run.
The mold is COE agnostic. Use a firing schedule matched to your glass type and kiln.
Re-prime the mold before each firing. Let the kiln cool fully before removing the cast pieces.
Suggested Firing Schedule (Colour de Verre General Guidance)
This is a suggested starting point, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold and test a small run before committing to a full batch.
Ramp no faster than about 350 F (195 C) per hour during the initial heat to casting temperature.
Fire to no more than about 1450 F (785 C).
Follow with a controlled cool and an anneal soak appropriate for your glass COE.
