The Japanese Scallop mold from Colour de Verre is a reusable ceramic frit-casting mold that produces a single shell-shaped casting suited for use as a paperweight or decorative accent piece. Load the cavity with about 150 grams of frit and fire to cast the scallop form. The finished piece measures approximately 3 inches.
Like all ceramic casting molds from Colour de Verre, this mold is COE agnostic and works with COE90, COE96, or other compatible fusible glass. The mold must be primed before every use with a boron nitride primer or compatible kiln wash, and it is reusable across many firings when cared for properly.
What does the Japanese Scallop mold make? It casts a single shell-shaped piece in the form of a Japanese scallop, approximately 3 inches across, suited to use as a glass paperweight or decorative accent piece.
How much glass do I need? Colour de Verre lists about 150 grams per casting. Weigh your glass and test a first run when the result matters.
What COE glass can I use? Any COE. Ceramic casting molds are COE agnostic, so the same mold works with COE96, COE90, or other fusible glass. Match your firing schedule to the glass you are using.
How do I prep the mold before casting? Prime the cavity with a boron nitride mold primer or compatible kiln wash, and let it dry completely before adding glass. Colour de Verre requires priming before every use, not just the first firing.

Working Notes
These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small run first when the result matters and follow the Colour de Verre project sheet for this mold.
Prime the cavity before every use with ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer or Hotline Primo Primer , and let it dry completely before adding glass. Colour de Verre specifies priming before every firing.
Fill the cavity with about 150 grams of frit, billets, or stacked sheet scrap to cast the scallop form.
The mold is COE agnostic. Use a full fuse schedule matched to your glass.
Let the kiln cool fully before removing the cast piece. Re coat the mold with primer before the next firing.
