Nativity Textured Fusing Tile

The Nativity Textured Fusing Tile from Creative Paradise is a ceramic fusing tile that transfers a detailed Nativity scene relief into the surface of fused glass. The tile measures 13 inches by 7 inches, with a diagonal of 14.75 inches, and is designed to be used with a double layer of fusible sheet glass and transparent frits to create a stained glass style Nativity panel.

To use it, prime the tile and lay it flat on the kiln shelf. Place a double layer of fusible sheet glass on top, then apply transparent frits in the colors and areas you choose. When fired, the frits fuse into the glass and the Nativity relief texture transfers to the underside of the panel, producing the look of a stained glass Nativity scene. Like all ceramic fusing tiles from Creative Paradise, this one is COE agnostic and reusable across many firings when cared for properly.

How do transparent frits create the stained glass appearance?
After priming the tile and placing a double layer of fusible glass on top, apply transparent frits in different colors across the design areas. When fired, the frits fuse into the glass surface and the tile's Nativity relief registers on the underside, giving the panel its stained glass character.

What COE glass can I use with this tile?
Any COE. Ceramic fusing tiles are COE agnostic, so the same tile works with COE96, COE90, or other compatible fusible glass. Match your firing schedule to the glass you are using.

How do I prepare the tile before firing?
Coat the tile surface with a kiln shelf primer such as a boron nitride spray (for example ZYP) or a kiln wash such as Hotline Primo Primer, and let it dry completely before placing glass on it. Re-coat between firings as needed.

Working Notes

These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small run first when the result matters and follow a firing schedule suited to your glass and kiln.

• Prime the tile surface with a boron nitride mold primer such as ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer, or a kiln wash, and let it dry completely before placing glass on it so the glass does not stick.
• Place a double layer of fusible sheet glass on the primed tile. Apply transparent frits across the design areas in the colors of your choice to build the stained glass style Nativity scene.
• The tile is COE agnostic. Use a full fuse schedule matched to your glass, adjusting the final anneal soak for your COE.
• Let the kiln cool fully before removing the fused panel. Re-coat the tile with primer as needed between firings.
• The Slide Hi Temp brand separator is not recommended with these tiles.

This is a suggested COE96 starting schedule, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Test a small run and adjust the schedule for your glass and kiln.

Full Fuse (COE96):

*Segment 4 is the anneal soak at 950 F for COE96. If using COE90, adjust this temperature to 900 F.
