Skull Decal Sheet

This sheet presents thirteen skull designs in a warm metallic gold finish. These are water-slide decals designed to fire onto the surface of pre-fired glass to add graphic detail and a metallic accent. The result after firing is a crisp, metallic image bonded to the glass surface.

Do these decals work with my existing fused glass?
Yes. These decals are applied to pre-fired glass and bond to the surface during a separate firing. Because they fire onto the surface rather than fusing as a glass layer, no specific COE match is required. Any clean, smooth, pre-fired glass is suitable.

How do I apply a water-slide decal?
Soak an individual decal briefly in clean water until it releases from its backing paper. Slide it carefully onto the surface of clean, pre-fired glass, then use a soft squeegee or your fingertip to smooth out any water bubbles or wrinkles. Allow the piece to dry completely before loading it into the kiln. Keep fingerprints and oils off the glass surface before application.

Can I place more than one decal on a single piece?
You can apply multiple decals to one piece of glass. Work with one at a time, smooth each one fully, and confirm the entire surface is dry before firing. Slight spacing between decals is recommended, as overlapping edges can produce uneven results in the kiln.

Working Notes

Clean the pre-fired glass surface thoroughly with a lint-free cloth and a degreasing agent before applying any decal. Oil, residue, or fingerprints on the surface can prevent adhesion or cause the decal to lift during firing. Once applied and fully dry, fire according to the schedule below. As a single-color sheet, these gold-finish skulls should be fired toward the lower end of the range.

Suggested Firing Schedule (a starting point only, not a guarantee of results): This is a single-color decal, so fire toward the lower end of its range to keep the image dense. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees F and fire slowly below 500 degrees F. Every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass.
50 degrees per hour to 185 degrees F, hold 20 min.
150 degrees per hour to 300 degrees F, hold 15 min.
250 degrees per hour to 500 degrees F, hold 15 min.
600 degrees per hour to 1000 degrees F, hold 10 min.
Then to 1240 to 1370 degrees F, hold about 10 min.
Anneal for the thickness of your glass.
