The Small Conical Drape mold from Creative Paradise is designed to slump a pre-made glass sheet or fused blank into a conical lamp shade shape. The form measures 8.75 inches long by 4 inches wide by 1.5 inches tall, and the glass drapes over it in the kiln, softening and settling into the cone profile as it heats.
Creative Paradise pairs this mold with the GM267 Large Conical Drape for matched or layered compositions, and also shows it used as a drape base for the LF236 Small Snowman and LF238 Small Tree cast pieces, which adds a dimensional quality to those finished designs. Like all ceramic draping forms, this mold is COE agnostic and reusable across many firings when prepped and cared for properly.
What does the Small Conical Drape mold make? It slumps a pre-made glass sheet or fused blank into a conical lamp shade shape, following the cone profile of the form, which measures 8.75 inches long by 4 inches wide.
How does draping work with this mold? Place a cut or pre-fused glass piece over the top of the form before firing. As the kiln heats, the glass softens and gravity pulls it down over the cone shape, which it holds as it cools.
What COE glass can I use? Any COE. Ceramic draping molds are COE agnostic, so the same mold works with COE96, COE90, or other fusible glass. Match your firing schedule to the glass you are using.
How do I prep the mold before draping? Coat the surface of the mold with a boron nitride spray or kiln wash, and let it dry completely before placing your glass over the form so the piece releases cleanly after firing.

Working Notes
These are guidelines, not guarantees. Every kiln fires a little differently, so test a small run first when the result matters and follow a draping schedule suited to your glass and kiln.
Prime the mold surface with a boron nitride mold primer such as ZYP Boron Nitride Mold Primer , or a kiln wash such as Hotline Primo Primer , and let it dry completely before placing your glass so it releases cleanly after firing.
Place a pre-cut or pre-fused glass blank over the top of the cone form. The glass softens in the kiln and drapes down over the profile by gravity.
Creative Paradise pairs this mold with the GM267 Large Conical Drape for matched or combined compositions, and also shows it used as a drape base for the LF236 Small Snowman and LF238 Small Tree cast pieces.
The mold is COE agnostic. Use a draping schedule matched to your glass, adjusting the final anneal soak for your COE.
Let the kiln cool fully before removing the draped piece. Re coat the mold with primer as needed between firings.
Creative Paradise Suggested Firing Schedule
This is a suggested COE96 starting schedule, not a guarantee. Every kiln fires differently. Test a small run and adjust the schedule for your glass and kiln.
Drape (COE96):
Segment Rate Temp (F) Hold 1 250 1250 10 2 9999 950* 60
*Segment 2 is the anneal soak at 950 F for COE96. If using COE90, adjust this temperature to 900 F.
