Small Feathers Decal Sheet

This sheet carries roughly two dozen small feather designs printed in white and soft cream tones with faint tan speckling against a neutral ground. These are water-slide decals fired onto the surface of pre-fired glass, not sandwiched between fusing layers, so no COE matching is required. To apply, soak a cut decal in room-temperature water for about 15 to 30 seconds until it slides freely off its backing paper, position it on clean, smooth glass, smooth out trapped water and air from the center outward, and let the piece dry fully before loading the kiln. After firing, the feather image is bonded to the glass surface.

What glass can I use these on?
Any glass that has already been fused or fired, because the decals bond to the surface rather than fusing as a compatible layer. No COE matching is needed, as long as the surface is smooth and the base piece has already been through its primary fuse or fire cycle.

How do I apply a water-slide decal?
Cut out the feather you want and soak it in room-temperature water for roughly 15 to 30 seconds, until the image slides freely from the backing paper. Hold the backing close to your glass, slide the decal into position, then use a soft squeegee or fingertip to move water and air bubbles outward from the center. Allow the piece to dry completely, at least several hours and ideally overnight, before firing.

Working Notes

Apply decals only to clean, smooth, pre-fired glass. Fingerprints, oils, and dust can interfere with adhesion and cause the decal to lift during firing. Dry the piece fully before kiln loading; overnight drying is more reliable than a short wait, particularly in humid conditions. For gently curved surfaces, cut the decal into smaller sections so it lays flat without folding or wrinkling. Test a small sample first and anneal for the thickness of your glass.

Suggested Firing Schedule (a starting point only, not a guarantee of results): Fire to roughly 1240 to 1370 degrees F, held about 10 minutes, keeping toward the lower end to preserve the density of the print. Every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees.
