Star Decal Sheet

This 5.25 by 4 inch sheet carries 34 classic five-pointed stars in a warm metallic gold finish. Fusible glass decals are water-slide transfers designed to be fired onto the surface of pre-fired glass. Because they bond to the glass surface rather than being fused as a compatible glass layer, they work with any COE. The process is direct: soak a decal briefly in room-temperature water, slide it off its paper backing onto clean pre-fired glass, smooth out all water and air bubbles, let the piece dry fully, then fire.

Can I use these star decals on any COE glass?
Yes. The decals are fired onto the surface of already-fired glass rather than fused as a compatible glass layer, so no COE matching is required. Clean, pre-fired glass in good condition is all you need.

How do I apply one of these decals?
Soak the individual decal in room-temperature water for about 30 seconds until it slides freely from its paper backing. Position it on clean, dry, pre-fired glass, slide the backing away, then smooth out any trapped water and air bubbles with a soft squeegee or your fingertip. The piece must dry completely before you load it into the kiln.

How hot should I fire these metallic gold star decals?
Fire in the suggested range of roughly 1240 to 1370 degrees, held about 10 minutes and kept toward the lower end to preserve the density of the gold, per the schedule below.

Working Notes

Apply each decal to clean, grease-free, pre-fired glass. Smooth out all water and bubbles thoroughly before drying, as any trapped moisture or air can cause lifting or blistering in the kiln. Because these are metallic gold decals, keep toward the lower end of the suggested range to preserve density. Cut individual decals apart before soaking so you can place each star precisely.

Suggested Firing Schedule (a starting point only, not a guarantee of results): Fire to roughly 1240 to 1370 degrees F, held about 10 minutes, keeping toward the lower end to preserve the density of the print. Every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees.
50 degrees per hour to 185 degrees, hold 20 min.
150 degrees per hour to 300 degrees, hold 15 min.
250 degrees per hour to 500 degrees, hold 15 min.
600 degrees per hour to 1000 degrees, hold 10 min.
Then to 1240 to 1370 degrees, hold about 10 min.
Anneal for the thickness of your glass.
