This sheet carries fifteen gear and cog motifs printed in warm metallic gold. The designs range from open spoked wheels and toothed outer rings to intricate interlocking clockwork assemblies, oval gear clusters, and multi-part cog arrangements, with enough variation that no two read alike. The style is vintage mechanical illustration, the kind tied to antique watchmaking and steampunk imagery. Fired onto glass, the gold line work becomes a permanent metallic accent.
These are water-slide fusible glass decals applied and fired on top of glass that has already been fused or kiln-formed. Because the decal sits on the surface rather than fusing as a compatible layer, no single COE applies and the sheet works with any glass you use. Soak an individual decal until it slides freely, ease it onto clean, dry pre-fired glass, smooth out water and air from the center outward, dry completely, then fire.
How do I apply these decals? Soak the decal 30 to 60 seconds until it slides freely from its backing, ease it onto clean, dry pre-fired glass, position it, then smooth out water and air from the center outward. Set the piece aside to dry completely before firing.
Can I use these on any COE glass? Yes. Because the decal is applied to the surface of already-fired glass rather than fused as a compatible layer, COE matching is not a factor. Smooth, flat, pre-fired glass gives the cleanest result.
Can I cut the sheet to place individual gears? Yes. The motifs are printed as discrete designs and can be trimmed apart with scissors before soaking, so you can place a single gear precisely or spread the sheet across several projects.
Do the metallic decals need special preparation? Keep the glass free of oils, fingerprints, and residue, since anything trapped beneath the film can cause lifting or uneven bonding. Metallic decals develop their full color and bond well when fired in the roughly 1240 to 1370 degree range, kept toward the lower end to preserve density.
Specifications
SKU: 163353 Design: 15 antique gear and cog motifs in gold metallic Format: single printed water-slide decal sheet Sheet size: 4 x 5.25 inches Compatible with any COE glass Working Notes
Apply only to clean, smooth, pre-fired glass. Moisture, oils, or debris under the decal can cause lifting or uneven bonding. Once positioned and smoothed, let the piece air-dry fully before firing. For metallic gold decals, staying toward the lower end of the range generally preserves the fullest color and film density. Test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass.
Suggested Firing Schedule (a suggested starting point only, not a guarantee of results): Final firing temperature is roughly 1240 to 1370 degrees, held about 10 minutes and kept toward the lower end to preserve density. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees. 50 DPH to 185 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 20 min. 150 DPH to 300 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 15 min. 250 DPH to 500 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 15 min. 600 DPH to 1000 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 10 min. Then advance to 1240 to 1370 degrees, HOLD/SOAK 10 min. Anneal for the thickness of your glass. Every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first.
