Hot Air Balloon Decals Sheet

This sheet carries 18 hot air balloon designs, most printed in warm metallic gold with one rendered in a dark tone for contrast. Each balloon shows its own envelope pattern: tall vertical stripes, segmented curved panels, a checkerboard, and bold wide divisions, so no two designs are alike. The balloons vary in size, from small accent silhouettes to several larger designs, giving you options for both scattered motifs and a single focal piece.

These are water-slide fusible glass decals applied to pre-fired glass and refired. Because the decal bonds to the surface rather than fusing as a compatible layer, the COE of your base glass is not a factor. Soak the decal briefly until it slides freely, position it on clean, dry pre-fired glass, smooth out trapped water and air, let it dry completely, then fire.

How do I apply one of these decals?
Soak the decal for about 30 seconds until it slides freely from its backing paper. Position it on clean, dry pre-fired glass, then slide the paper out while holding the decal in place. Smooth out trapped water and air with a soft squeegee or fingertip, let the piece dry completely, then fire.

Do these work on any COE glass?
Yes. Because the decal is fired onto an already-fused surface rather than fused into the glass as a compatible layer, the COE of your base glass does not matter.

Are these metallic, and does that affect firing?
Most balloons are printed in metallic gold, with one in a dark tone. Fire to the range in the Suggested Firing Schedule below, holding toward the lower end to keep the metallic dense.

Working Notes

Apply decals to clean, thoroughly dry, pre-fired glass. After soaking and sliding the decal into position, smooth it flat and let it dry fully before loading the kiln. Because the gold designs are metallic, target the lower end of the range to preserve the metallic density. Always anneal for the thickness of your glass and test a small piece before committing a finished project.

Suggested Firing Schedule (the manufacturer's recommendation, a starting point only): Firing range is roughly 1240 to 1370 degrees F; these designs fire toward the lower end to preserve density. This is a suggested starting point, not a guarantee of results. Every kiln fires differently, so test a small piece first and anneal for the thickness of your glass. Ventilate the kiln well up to 1000 degrees and fire slowly below 500 degrees.
50 DPH to 185 degrees F, HOLD/SOAK 20 min.
150 DPH to 300 degrees F, HOLD/SOAK 15 min.
250 DPH to 500 degrees F, HOLD/SOAK 15 min.
600 DPH to 1000 degrees F, HOLD/SOAK 10 min.
Then to 1240 to 1370 degrees F, HOLD/SOAK 10 min.
Anneal for the thickness of the glass.
